It is totally untrue that you can boot into OS9 on any mac laptop.  Please be careful when delivering advice to people that will be spending thousands of dollars based on what you say.  (not a flame, just a suggestion to be considerate of other's wallets.)

Currently you can ONLY boot into OS9 on the 15" powerbook and the iBooks.  Not the 12" or the 17" powerbook.

You can also ONLY boot into 9 on the sub 1Ghz iMac and the special OS9 dual 1.25Ghz PowerMac.  G5s, all other powermacs and the 1Ghz iMac can only boot into X.

We have been assured that any time now Apple will stop producing machines that will boot 9.

The X-only machines do not have OS9 drivers for their motherboards, so there is nothing short of a major miracle that could make them boot to 9.

AND almost no audio software will work properly in classic mode.  Do yourself a favor and assume that what you want to use will not work.
