What is the value of disillusion, discouragement ? Your insect analogy is
right-on. Ants and human beings are operating along the same evolutionary
paths. We are trying to pass on our genes. (Re: Dawkins, "Selfish Gene")

For whatever reason, humans appear to have a certain consciousness about
them that is not found in ants (or trees, or plankton). To some, the
birth-work-parenthood-death cycle is entirely satisfying while other seek
something different to make peace with consciousness.

An unfortunate trend that I frequently observe in the latter group is a
discouragement that more human beings around them don't have the same
urge, drive or at least don't appreciate the efforts of those who do.
They say, "you're all sheep!" or "you're asleep!" and I find this
attitude offensive, counterproductive, and a brazen waste of energy.

So turn it around - be a role model for youth. Work hard at what works
for you - making music that criticizes the very tools used to produce it ?

As far as I can tell, the one thing this world can benefit from is some
positivity.
