This is getting OT, so my last words (happy to talk off-list)...

Firewire and USB audio connections, whilst really nifty, are reputedly 
very poor w/r/t to jitter, and this potentially has attendant effects on 
the perceived quality of the sound.  Also, I've heard of quite a few 
people having problems with MOTU hardware on Windows systems.

Like you say though, good quality costs.
