Thanks for the help everyone!

I've used a lot of these applications before, like Blender and Kino, 
and I used to
write opengl visualisation plugins for XMMS back in the day.  I think 
I'm just finding
it hard to imagine how to tie things together to produce a story of 
some kind.

Those PDP things look very interesting... Now I want to make a copy of 
pdp_mgrid
that produces cellular automata.  In fact, that could quite easily 
produce good
material for a video.
