the music industry wants to sell you music files with DRM credentials to
replace your existing music files. that way, they have more control [er-
revenue] over what you can listen to in a player that rejects files that
have invalid or missing DRM credentials.

i think the real issue is not the technical one, but the economic one:
how does the current music industry make money off of digital music?

my opinion is that the new networked music economy is much better for
music and musicians than the old. [but with much less money coming in]
