RE: [microsound] website to modular environment and back (tech)
I made a project along these lines which uses macromedia flash as the front
end, and this then sends
variables to a max application via xml. the object for the max receiver is
called flashserver
and it seems to work quite well.
http://www.nullmedium.de/dev/flashserver/
but you could likely use Open Sound Control instead because its meant for
exactly this kind of thing
and there's components for flash, director, pd, max , processing and others
http://www.cnmat.berkeley.edu/OpenSoundControl/
i think for both of these you could have a max patch running all the time on
a server perhaps, there's
objects for streaming audio. All you need to specify is the IP address and a
channel for sending and receiving data packets. Or you could have the person
download the patch as a standalone
application at the time they open the site like with a flash projector file,
and then it would run on their
computer without needing max installed at their end. I dont know you could
do this with pd, but
this
http://crca.ucsd.edu/~jsarlo/gripd/
looks quite interesting for that kind of thing.
