RE: [microsound] american female exp. composers
hi,
i need to clarify something here.
i was not classifying my catalogue by m/f genre, my catalogue is divided by labels/artists. it was just a curiosity to see how many female composers we have, and i was happy to see there are many, as electronic/experimental music is/was always considered as a male-dominated genre. (95% of my customers are male. that's a fact.)
i understand that in your opinin just the fact that i am thinking about a distinction between m/f artists is wrong, but then we could say the same about a distinction europe/asia/america. maybe i have a database fixation ;-)
i have contacts with many female composers and love to be able to distribute their works, my question arose from the fact that they are mainly japanese.
looking at the catalogue of the most important microsound labels (12k/line, trente oiseaux, mille plateaux..) i could find very few (if any) usa female composers, and i found it strange, that's it.
anyway as my mail is getting lot of answers quoting names of female composers, i think it was a good chance to share knowledge by people on this list. having worked in the electronic music market for years i can surely say that there isn't any trace of ghettoization of female artists, i don't think any label-owner choose the artists to publish on sex-gender.
ciao,
david.
