[microsound] confusion

why? the three founders of this list (disclaimer: I am one of them)  
did not want it to turn into the fanboy/gear slut list that many  
others gravitate towards -- and this is why I moved all the people  
who contribute zilch but wanna hawk their wares to the 'microsound- 
announce' list...so you CAN post all your activities and CD's for  
sale to your hearts content - and you can cross-post ad nauseam...

I don't see how someone forwarding a myspace link as being  
similar...albeit it does add a certain amount of noise to the list  
and detracts from any thoughtful discussion in and of itself...

sharing music on the list is fine so long as it is not flagrant self- 
promotion -- as in: selling CD's, promoting concerts, calls for  
projects, etc. especially when done by those who contribute little/ 
nothing to the list aesthetically/philosophically but don't mind  
using it as a poster kiosk for their activities...

Announcing a myspace account is borderline promotion...but if someone  
were able to script something that would take an email with a myspace  
link embedded in it and update a web page with it - that would be  
much more useful than whining about elitists and such...

and to the person who thinks myspace is a free market-driven  
meritocracy: you're kidding, right?
