a great alternative to itunes that folks here might like is audiolunchbox.com - some very nice independent artist releases, no DRM. i've started looking there first for new releases as an alternative to itunes. a great microsonic component represented there is hakan lidbo, his new album 'sound molecules' is AMAZING.

it's interesting to me that, for example, bill frisell is selling the second installment of "East/West" both on his website with many choices (AAC, MP3, FLAC) sans DRM, and then also available on itunes *with* DRM and at a lower price to boot.
