Re: [microsound] Re: "sjb" microsound Digest 12 Sep 2001 18:22:59 -0000 Issue 407
i usually lurk in the corners, but...
sjb, in response to your comments. first of all youre posting how your
friends dont go near that monolith corporate structure downtown, and
youre playing the high horse game. well a simple study of cultural
theory in the late 20th century will tell you that proximity is perhaps
the least of important issues when supporting a sort of oppressive
regime (whichever regime that is). now sjb, please listen up, since as
you tell us youre a straight A student...first of all your mailing
client, outlook express is made by a company that is one of the largest
corporations in the world, with what would be a GNP larger than most
nations. secondly the components themselves within your computer are
made by companies very close to that size. your consumption habits are
also tied into a global network of production and consumption. to sit
there playing like youre the better man here is simply ignorant. if you
want to examine this in the way you seemt to think is most important,
with thinking only, dont position yourself as the transcendent ego.

p.s. read some works on epistemology, along with about any thinkers
during the last 150 years. the attempts to divorce the subject in a
completely cognitive act has failed. the affective and subjective
feelings we experience are a necessary part of coping with any
situation, especially one of this magnitude.
