Re: [microsound] Re: on working methods for live performance

Hello,

After reading this thread I get the impression that too many people still measure the value of a work (and I am afraid even the value of a man) by how hard someone had to work for it. Isn't this a bit too 20th century for 2004?
Are the later Cage pieces worth less than his early ones just because he had found a way to compose more pieces in less time? Why not LISTEN to those late pieces and find out this way if they are good or not?
Sure I can enjoy an intense stage show (I love what La Fura dels Baus do for example) but it has nothing to do with the music. If working hard on stage had anything to do with good music, most pop stars would make incredibly great music! They really work and dance their asses off.
If I want to see people work hard I rather watch a football game......... :-))
I think it is not only silly but actually very dangerous to judge the value of music (or man) by how much work was done (especially if you exclude things like preparation and thinking ).
The people of the 21st century must finally understand that we must get rid of all these old ideas of hard working men and all that bullshit. It is time to make our machines work for us so we have time to think and invent.
Man is supposed to be a genius, not a worker!
