this is not true. the entire IP network started as a defense project
[funded by taxpayers]. the web browser started at a cooperative research
institute [CERN], and the best browser today [imho] is an open source
project [firefox]. the new macOS is built on FreeBSD- again, an open
source project [back before they were even called that].
the entire free software movement is based on the notition that everyone
has the right to view the source, read and learn from it, and enhance
the program. and it works [much to the chagrin of the 300 pound gorilla
that lives in redmond].

that's not what i was saying at all.
i said that the network is the best way to distribute music.
i still think so.
personally, i'm of the opinion that most of the music industry is
comprised of greedy and money hungry people. not all, most. so, to me,
the sooner we can remove those layers between musicians and listeners,
the better.
