Re: [microsound] Physical Media - Discussion

forget about the media itself.

it's packaging that is all important when it comes keeping so-called physical media alive. holograms, tactile textures, neon plastic, brushed aluminum jewelcases, coloured vinyl, handpainted works, ribbon and and string, iridescent bows and sparkly glitter... innovative packaging, industrial design, the three dimensional and the tactile... these are the very things that *cannot* be downloaded or pirated or counterfeit easily. and thus they are the very thing that should be celebrated and emphasized in 'tactile media' (perhaps a better name). they are the 'added value' to purchasing the tactile media. musicians who put out standard uninspired jewelcases and wonder why nobody wants it should know that music as a consumer experience is more than just soundwaves. it's the whole process and should involve all the senses.
